COVID-19, polio and Mpox remain global concerns
Here are the key findings from our latest surveillance report on Overseas Infectious Diseases of priority concern.
- COVID-19 remains a global concern with the continued development of new subvariants
- Poliovirus cases remained high in African countries in 2023, particularly the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Chad and Guinea
- Mpox cases at the global level dropped between 2022 and 2023, but surged again with the emergence of a new strain in 2024
- Measles cases increased between 2021 and 2022, and vaccination rates remained lower than optimal
